Rathole Roadshow 2012

Rathole RadioTonight it's the Rathole Roadshow @leafteashop and it will be one of the most engaging performances in Liverpool for a long time. Not only is it FREE but there is going to be enough technology in the room to sink a small battleship.  I was asked earlier on Twitter what I meant by saying it was going to enage an online audience so I'll go into those details now.
The whole gig is going to be Live Streamed across the internet, the video will be streamed using Ustream and the audio will also be streamed, but that's not the bit that makes it exciting for me. What makes it truly engaging is that you can respond to the performances as you hear them via twitter and via the IRC or Internet Chat Room - nothing new there either really. But if you connect the twiiter stream to a couple of little gadgets one called @bubblino and the other simply called Audiencebot then this is something else, @bubblino will blow bubbles everytime he reads the hashtag #RR2012 in the Twitter Streeam and then the Audiencebot will bang his drum adding to the general applause giving the band direct feedback about how their performance is from the online audience. NOW THAT'S ENGAGEMENT FOR YOU
Over the forthcoming weeks in Liverpool there are loads of gigs laid on for Sound City and even a Conference of some sort but the one thing we won't see is a live video stream and the opportunity to give direct feedback.

You can read the press release below about Rathole Radio.

Copyright & Piracy in the Digital Age

Copyright & Piracy in the Digital Age - Are we all criminals?

A subject which is close to many of our hearts and is a real highlight from the Writing on the Wall Festival, the issues of Copyright and Piracy are now ever present in todays society as most of the population own, have listened to or watched a pirated version of a TV programme, Movie or album. You can't use  youtube without possibily violating someone elses copyright so we have all become criminals for mere consumption of material... well that can't be right. A proposed Government bill on Digital Copyright only saw the light of day for a week before being thrown into the long grass of politics.

This event can only help us to inderstand the issues behind this subject area so come along on the 3rd May.

social media cafe advert

Social Media Cafe Liverpool is back and this time it's audio that gets all the attention and rightly so.

Static Gallery on Roscoe Lane will once again host SMCliv on Thursday April 19th where they will be offering an evening exploring the growing use of audio within Social Media. Looking at online audio platforms, podcasting and the uses of audio for business development.

A panel of three experts will present on their areas of specialism in audio and social media, be that marketing, journalism, writing, teaching or music. The forum will then be opened out to the floor for a more general discussion and Q&A session.

At Social Media Cafe Last month Franics Irving the CEO of Scraperwiki discussed digital nests and where will we be making our digital home in future, will it be facebook or will that have goine by then or will it be that smaller networks spring up and populated by area, such as the Liverpool Network etc. So how will we use Social Media in future? Some of the new platforms debuted at South by South West may help answer that question or do they just muddy the waters more.

Watch the video and come down to the next #SMCliv and contribute to the debate.

5926037286_6ddda6aab3_oWe finally see it - a year in the making but now Hack for Culture has a name it can't be sued over. It is set to set the world of arts data alight by bringing the glorious arts & cultural organisations of Liverpool together with Merseyside's Digital and Creative industries to explore and experiment with a wide variety of hidden cultural data sets.

"A data set (or dataset) is a collection of data, usually presented in tabular form. Each column represents a particular variable. Each row corresponds to a given member of the data set in question. It lists values for each of the variables, such as height and weight of an object. Each value is known as a datum. The data set may comprise data for one or more members, corresponding to the number of rows." Wikipedia - so probably wrong.
