Rebellion in Blackpool

Rebellion 6th - 9th August sees the largest collections of rebellious bands come to the North West in a festival to rival the biggies - and the weather is looking promising to.

The biggest punk/independent music festival in the world, 5 stages over 150 bands...it features The Damned, The Beat, Killing Joke, Goldie Lookin Chain, Ade Edmunson & The Bad Shepherds, John Otway, Frank Sidebottom, Bay City Rollers and loads of other mad stuff....

Above the beaten track Following the runaway success of last year’s inaugural event, the Above The Beaten Track festival team have beavering away to make this year even more special, whilst maintaining their ethos of championing all things alternative, marginal and local; on all three floors of the gallery space. On the 22nd August the View Two Gallery on Mathew Street opens its doors for this return.

Only a few weeks ago Africa Oye thrilled thousands in Sefton Park, Liverpool with two days of the finest music and this weekend we get the opportunity for more. Africa Oyé in association with Walk the Plank that theatre ship in the dock are going to deliver an evening of stunning FREE African music at the beautiful setting of Liverpool’s Pier Head as part of this weekend celebration ‘Music on the Waterfront’.

Oyé will bring to you some of the finest musicians from West Africa to Liverpool for your listening and dancing pleasure. Whoopeee.

Not Very I thought but I didn't realise it when i first saw it but it has slowly sunk in that the artistic director of Manchester's Contact Theatre appears in this advert for a Panasonic digital camera. Baba Israel is wearing the beret and Beatboxing.
 
And he is mighty fine at it he is to.
 

CELL premiere at 24:7 Theatre FestivalA lyrical and percussive piece of new writing

CELL, Ailis Ni Riain's third play receives its premiere as part of the 24:7 Theatre Festival, supported by Arts Council England,  20th-26th July 2009 in Manchester (see venue and performance times below). Directed by Paula Simms, CELL was written between 2005 and 2009.

mjf 2009 is bigger and better than ever, with 9 Days, 60 gigs, 300 musicians and hours of live music. Also planned is a full array of special events and activities, indoors and out, on stage, on screen and online... such as the Discovering Jazz evening, a mini-season of classic jazz films at the Cornerhouse, and Afoxe, a Brazilian parade and performance throughout Manchester city centre.

Tickets are now on sale for The Liverpool Working Class Music Festival, the only annual music festival of its kind in Europe.

Now in its second year the five-day festival is the brainchild of local singer/songwriter Alun Parry and it showcases twenty top radical songwriters and performers from around the country. “Our aim is to promote songs of struggle, protest and social justice, as well as songs that tell our story,” says organiser Alun.
