CELL premiere at 24:7 Theatre FestivalA lyrical and percussive piece of new writing

CELL, Ailis Ni Riain's third play receives its premiere as part of the 24:7 Theatre Festival, supported by Arts Council England,  20th-26th July 2009 in Manchester (see venue and performance times below). Directed by Paula Simms, CELL was written between 2005 and 2009.

It received initial financial support from BBC in Association with the West Yorkshire Playhouse. CELL tells the story of Hickey, a young Irish man who experiences acute social withdrawal syndrome and susequently hasn’t left his bedroom for two years. Years of expectation and pressure laid upon him as a prodigious child have culminated in a man who can barely function. Mickey, his ebullient alter ego challenges his decision every day.
