Taking place monthly at Leaf Cafe Jelly Liverpool, this Thursday 6th March will see developers and creatives of all types atending as it becomes the focus point for lots of relaxed netwworking, conversations and plain old head down getting on with work.

If you are a contract developer then this is the perfect event for you, as over 50% of the people that attend are developers of one sort or another, be that web apps, phone apps or plain old website developers - they all attend.

Jelly Liverpool enables delegates to escape their normal working environment, be that the spare room, rented desk space or usual café and join in what has become the co-working event that enables people to make new contacts in an informal way whilst still allowing them to work on their deadlines and maintain productivity.

So get booking even if you do miss out on the free coffee it is a great place to hang out for the day.

TechHub Manchester is hosting a OpenData + Wearable devices hackathon on the 15-16th March. It is for Makers, designers, programmers, spreadsheet wizards

Numbers That Matter aims to explore what would happen if people could create smart devices that reported very specific data to the wearer - numbers that mattered to them the most. If we could invent a watch that told you that your neighbours were probably bored and looking for companionship, if we could invent a litmus badge that changed colour telling you how healthy the areas you frequent are, if we could invent a bandana that unfurled in sociable places, how would it affect us? Would they change our behaviour as individuals – but more interestingly, could they help us become more aware citizens?

Digital Sector News and Events

Liverpool's Digital sector news

For awhile there we were the only ones publishing Digital sector news and we saw it as our duty to help the sector to develop, so it sat quite nicely beside our other activities such as How Why DIY, Social Media Cafe and Ignite Liverpool. Each in the own way helping the digital sector  or digital community to come together, meet, mix and lead to some useful collaborations.

If you have any relevant sector news then let us know and we can publish it for you - it automatically gets inculded in our newsletter.

Defcon presents......

defcon-consciousness-final

Satirical magazine Defcon is looking to launch itself into the internet age and is seeking local writers to get involved.

After a long, long hiatus Defcon magazine is planning an online magazine and a fanzine. The original magazine's focus on what could be described as something between satire and therapy will still be in there, but it will also have a broader cultural focus. It will be North-West centric but highly international. If you imagine that it is as focussed on the North West as a gritty ITV detective series might be, but understands that there are policemen everywhere, then you will be close enough to the truth. The North West focus will predominately be within features, previews and interviews. Other sections will be a free for all.

eHealth opportunities newsletter - February

Occassionally relevant news for the Liverpool digital sector is hard to come by and at other times it's published in a friendly newsletter, when this happens I like to republish it in some open source kind of way. Information is power - according to Gordon Gecko so here is some power.
