Shiverpool is one of the best Ghost and History tour operators in the UK and already offer an infamously spooky selection of the best guided tours, telling stories with integrity and ingenuity about the places you never even knew existed and their hidden histories. This new tour explores the local pirate haunts as well as the hauntings of Liverpool and exchanges the worst chills for thrills to make this fun for all the family.
John Stone, Shiverpool Director says “Shiverpool is about making the magic of history jump from the pages and pavements of our enthralling past. Our street theatre style of delivery does just that and we want to open up the experience in the summer months to make it fun, affordable and accessible for all ages.”
With your bags already packed, the tour begins at the Suitcase Monument on Hope Street/Mount Street (facing Blackburn House) for free face painting for your budding pirates. Follow Long John Shiver around the carefully chosen route, taking in the most stunning buildings and famous locations. Shiverpool guides excite and enthral with their stunning theatrical performances and spell-binding story-spinning skills. The yarns spun are historically accurate and will include terrible tales from the high seas, because sometimes truth is scarier than fiction.
Learn about the old work house that stood where the Metropolitan Cathedral now towers over the Liverpool skyline, and how it inspired Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist! The Hope Street area provides a wealth of weird wonders including the pyramid tomb of Will Mackenzie, in which he is said to be seated upright, still gambling the fortune he sold his soul to the devil for... One of Long John Shiver’s shipmates was there for the gory goings on of the Hope Street Body Snatchers, will you be brave enough to plunge your hands into a bucket of gruesome gunge?
The tour continues to the Anglican Cathedral to learn incredible facts about this famous building and down into St James’ Graveyard and the mysterious lives of the characters interned there. Will you be courageous enough to walk the plank down into the graveyard? Led by Long John Shiver you will find out all about the many famous characters buried there like Sarah Biffin, the armless dwarf, a brilliant artist who painted England's kings and queens but who died penniless. Or William Huskisson, a famous politician and the man who was killed in the first ever train accident, but does his soul rest peacefully? Find out with Shiver Me Timbers Tour!
Shiverpool think outside the coffin to educate and entertain, the murderous magic of these evening walks will delight your little devils and treat them to creepy bedtime stories to fuel to their imagination for years to come.
