Funding cuts for Arts Council England -

Looks like the Arts Council are facing further funding cuts - I hope that means the end of their West Minster offices. They should have moved out years ago - they stay as it means they are close to government so they can argue for the arts well it hasn't helped them so time to move.

Statement from Dame Liz Forgan, Chair of Arts Council England: “We all knew this year would be tough. We do not understand why we have received a higher percentage cut than other DCMS funded bodies. Making cuts within the financial year is very difficult. We will now need to carefully assess what this figure of £19m means. The Arts Council has already trimmed its own budgets by £4 million in 2010/11 so this takes our total reduction this year to £23 million.

The annual award of £5000 is made to an individual or organization which, in the opinion of the judges, has made an outstanding contribution to the British public’s knowledge and understanding of the life, society and culture of the Arab people.

The judges unanimously chose the LAAF in recognition of the wide range of shows and activities from throughout the Arab World which it organizes during its annual festival, and the large and growing audiences it attracts. Through its concerts, dance shows, art and photographic exhibitions, poetry readings and plays held in many Liverpool venues, and its outreach programmes in schools and other centres

Admission £10 (£8 Concessions)
A major exhibition bringing together over 150 works by Pablo Picasso from across the world will be presented at Tate Liverpool. Picasso: Peace and Freedom will reveal a fascinating new insight into the artist’s life as a tireless political activist and campaigner for peace, challenging the widely-held view of the artist as creative genius, playboy and compulsive extrovert.

Hope Uni Fine Art & Design Degree Show -  taking place at their creative campus until Friday May 28 2010 and we at artinliverpool.com were thrilled to award our purchase prize (this is our 4th). The large paintings by a very talented young artist, Corrie Barclay, caught our attention immediately.
