News
Liverpool has unveiled a highlights programme of over 100 events and festivals in a bid to be the UK capital of FREE culture in 2009.
The city announced it is to build on its success as the 2008 European Capital of Culture, which generated £800m for the regional economy, by commissioning several major FREE cultural events including a waterfront festival and a public art parade similar in scale to the ’08 hit Go Superlambananas.
This is also the last podcasts for a couple of weeks as Ian is heading off to Japan to watch the cherry blossom fall.
Round Up of the week
Ian has been a bit busy so only made it to a couple of places this week. Jason Jones 'Self Observed' at Cornerstone - We discuss Jason's picture of himself in front of an open fridge. Ian also went to the Royal Standard show - 'Pretty Deep (inside your head)' - which proved not that deep inside any head.
This is where we do our time travel bit - As we recorded this before the event and now I am writing about it after the event - WE PLAY, the north west cultural legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
WE PLAY, a Legacy Trust UK funded project led by Arts Council England, North West on behalf of new regional partnerships, was launched at a special event that took place on 24 March at the Manchester Velodrome. The aim of the programme is to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and ensure the Games also leave a lasting cultural legacy for the north west.
The launch announced and presented the WE PLAY programme and its producers, and marked the beginning of this significant new partnership initiative. The producers and the programmes will involve the whole of the north west, and pull together partners from culture, education and sport. From 24 March 2009 more information about the programme will be available at www.nwbeinspired.com Or flickr stream.
