NEWS
Liverpool Art Prize nominations closed - over 80 nominations and by the way last years winner ~Imogen Stidworthy is on the shortlist of 4 along with another Liverpool artist, Paul Rooney for the Northern Art Prize. An exhibition of their work, including film, photography, drawing, performance and installation, will take place at Leeds Art Gallery from 21 November 2008 until 1 February 2009. The winner will be announced on 15 January 2009.

art08 awards - Bluecoat and Yorkshire Bank won award for their Shine project. Lewis Biggs and Dadafest missed out this year. But Paul Hartley from Lancashire won the Outstanding Acheivement award for his work with young people on the Burnley Big art Project. Find out more about the awards.

Loads of international stuff been happening - with a Japanese delegation here last week for the Launch of 'European Eyes on Japan'. Then Korea Live events - noodle bar (again), u-ram choe installation and films at FACT, Drumming and Taekwando at CUC.

Romanian Connections also at CUC, music, dance, theatre (including Waiting for Godot on Thur 20th)
Photographers from all the Cities on the Edge places for the exhibition and book launch - Liverpool, Naples, Bremen, Istanbul, Marseille
and Gdansk.

THIS WEEK

The eighth Cornerstone Festival, held at Liverpool Hope University’s award winning Cornerstone Building launches on Thursday 19th November and will run until Saturday 6th December 2008.  This year’s festival will explore the trans-Atlantic cultural links between two of the world’s most vibrant and cultured cities - Liverpool and New York.

NICE08 at Various Venues 20 - 30 November 2008.
NICE is a combined arts festival presenting the best in collaborative works between the UK and the Nordic countries. Participants range from Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and the UK.  Its aim is to highlight the heritage links between Liverpool and the Nordic countries by exploring contemporary art and culture, music and dance. Liverpool's year as European City of Culture is an excellent opportunity for us to create a festival that will form links that will last beyond 2008 and we hope to provide future collaborations and events within Liverpool's best venues and galleries. A collection of paintings, photographs and artefacts designed to take the blues out of Winter.  Artists include Phil Dowling, Frances Conway-Seymour & Isabel O'Rourke.

The first fair is this coming Saturday the 22 November 10.00 to 17.00
There will be 30 stalls, with a good mix of paintings, jewellery and crafts by local artists and makers.
