There is no better way of programming your festival than to let others do it for you, in fact I remember Nuffield Theatre in Lancaster won an award for doing just that in 2008. Now Writing on the Wall, Liverpool's outstanding writing festival are doing just the same as they explain below. This is a great idea and at Defnet Media we applaud them

After celebrating our tenth anniversary year, a decade which has seen such diverse speakers and performers as Billy Bragg, Irvine Welsh, Roddy Doyle, Helen Walsh, Anne Enright, The Beat, Don Letts, Howard Marx, Noam Chomsky, Brian Pattern, Benjamin Zephaniah, and many, many others, we are now looking to you, our audience, for ideas and suggestions of who you would like to see in the festival next year. For example:

• Would you like to see a particular event within your local community?

• After the recent economic and political turmoil, is there a particular speaker or expert you would like see?

• Is there a musical act that has a reputation for being radical and innovative, that you would like to see perform?

• Are you at college or university, and studying the literature of a contemporary writer?

Remember, your suggestions could be based on literature, art, music, politics, current events, anything you think is relevant to Liverpool today. If you can think of any please send a one sentence suggestion to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

With Nesta anouncing that five arts and cultural projects will receive funding from the £7 million Digital R&D Fund for the Arts earlier this month - is it about time that we saw more of this money coming to the North West more speciaficaly Liverpool based arts and cultural organisations.

These R&D projects are testing the use of digital technologies to widen audience access and engagement in the arts, with the purpose of developing useful products, services and knowledge for the wider the arts and cultural sector so surely we could be applying for some of this money here.
