The film presents down on his luck, boxer Tom (McMartin) who gets a job as a doorman at a seedy nightclub run by old timer Billy the Cowboy (Tom Bell). Tom begins to regain his self esteem under the watchful eyes of hard as nails ex para Paul (Paul Barber) and streetwise barmaid Mary (Lisa Parry), but when a barroom brawl turns into a Wild West turf war, it is Tom's redemption that pays the price.
Liverpool actor Paul Barber said "Dead Man’s Cards was a fantastic experience for me because it gave me a chance to fulfil a long standing ambition of mine and work with the great Tom Bell, it was also brilliant to get my hands on a grittier, harder role than what is normally offered me!"
Writer/actor James McMartin said “I’m a huge fan of Maureen Sinclair and her dedication to Clapperboard, a charity close to my heart so I’m really made up that she’s screening my feature film debut to raise much needed funds for the Clapperboard Youth Project.”
Clapperboard UK Ltd is a non profit making and charitable organisation and has worked successfully with more than one thousand young people between the ages of 12-19 across the North West bringing creativity into their lives.Clapperboard’s director, Maureen Sinclair said “Once again, it’s a great honour for me to be able to promote home grown talent which helps to raise the profile of Clapperboard”.
The creative team Paul Barber, James McMartin and James Marquand will participate in a Question and Answer session with the audience, Chaired by Echo Journalist and writer Peter Grant.
