The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) published their new £26m Creative Industries Strategy last week. Alongside the Strategy, the TSB is announcing a number of funding programmes to be launched in the next six months. This major new investment is intended to boost innovation and growth for the UK's creative and digital businesses. The funding is aimed at major collaborative research and development projects. TIGA GameDev (trade body for games industry) are hosting the first of a casual meet-up with talks to connect people in the Liverpool area. Keynote speaker is Nick Davies, Co-founder of Lucid Games. Places are limited and it is free to attend for TIGA members and all developers, so please register early. There will be plenty of food and drink available on the night! Venue is Elevator Bar & Café, 25 Parliament Street, Liverpool.

Sensors for Healthcare. Thanks to the development of exciting new smart sensor technology, Open Labs' partner and leading LJMU researcher Professor Ahmed Al-Shamma'a (at LJMU's Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies (BEST) Research Institute) has along with Dr Andrew Shaw, Dr Alex Mason and Stephen Wylie invented new electromagnetic wave sensors that monitor patients' vital signs, such as heart rate, blood oxygen levels and temperature without having to hook them up to a machine. The sensor design has just been published as the 2.5mth patent application (GB2500000) by the UK Intellectual Property Office.

IC tomorrow has launched the 'Digital Innovation Contest - Games' in partnership with some of the UK's biggest games and tech brands; Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), Crytek UK, Intel, Google Chrome, ODEON Cinemas and Pinewood Studios. The contest is offering a total funding pot of up to £125k (five awards of up to £25k) to encourage digital innovation in the games sector and is open to any EU-based companies or developers. The application deadline is 12 noon, Wednesday 16 October.

The TSB's national Innovation Voucher scheme is designed to help businesses gain the knowledge they need to innovate and grow. An Innovation Voucher can help your business to work with an external expert for the first time by paying towards the cost of their services. Innovation Vouchers will be available to businesses that are aiming to work on ideas applicable to one of their priority themes outlined on the website.

Digital Creativity in Disability (the official co-ordinator for the e-Health cluster of Liverpool Vision) in association with Mi, Liverpool Social Care Partnership and Open Labs hosted a Social Care Technology Demo Day featuring demonstrations from Leon Rossiter of Instinctive Creations on his company's Leaf Project and Mark Chapman of social care programming firm ReallyCare CIC, who spoke about Plait, his revolutionary software tool for managing multiagency and client relations in social care.

Leaf Conf is a 2-day Lean Startup conference for creating sustainable businesses. There are workshops and talks with highly practical lessons and stories that can be applied at every stage, from an idea up to large organisations. Takes place on 26 & 27th October .... Tickets here.
