Art in Liverpool FM

art in liverpool fm logo webIt's my own personal history project stretching back to 2007 - with hundreds of recorded interviews, podcasts and plays. This section of the site is pretty old so don't expect it to work all the time and ignore it asking for Real Player to be loaded.

NEWS

Transition: The city is looking forward to Transition this Saturday, with fireworks at the dock as Liverpool hands over the European Capital of Culture baton to both Vilnius and Linz. More information below.

Forum: Artinliverpool.com abandons the hugely successful forum, due to the excessive amounts of Spam being sent to it. It is now replaced with a very respectable looking Classified section - check it out here

Coming up this week

Thursday 8 January Viewing at Head Space at EggSpace 7pm-9pm

Friday 9 January Viewing at Bluecoat Display Centre - 50 @ the BDC. 10 January – 28 February 2009 - Get there early to avoid disappointment - more

To launch the Bluecoat Display Centre’s 50th anniversary year BDC have invited 50 artists who have exhibited at the gallery during the last 50 years to make a piece which will sell in the exhibition for £50.

The big event of the week is Transition - Saturday 10 January

Many galleries will be open late with special events, also street theatre, dance and other live performances from 18.00 onwards. Full details on the liverpool08 websiteThe newly regenerated public space at the Pier Head will come alive with light and sound for this people's celebration. At 6.15pm, a live MC will introduce a sound, light and visual review of Liverpool's history from 7,000,000,000BC to the present day. It will incorporate a history associated with its world heritage waterfront that has been reinvigorated like the rest of the city, and will be shown in full colour across several huge screens on the waterfront followed by a magnificent pyrotechnic finale from ships in the river at 7pm.

Says Phil Redmond: "Just as we opened the year switching from the sandstone and cobbles of the 19th Century People's Palace of St George's Hall to the 21st Century steel and glass Arena, so we are opening 2009 with a new waterfront. Just as our forefathers walked to the river front and looked out to the world, so we will in the future."

This 'Transition' will mark Liverpool's 08 Year of Culture to its 09 Year of the Environment, and will mark the official handover to the European Capitals of Culture 09, the Austrian city of Linz and Vilnius in Lithuania. The exciting prospect is that Linz has agreed to 'twin' with Liverpool and stage a complementing light event in Austria on the same night.

Plus Liverpool Light Night 7 - 10pm at Various venues around the city

WOLSTENHOLME PROJECTS presents… After the Curtain Falls on Saturday 10 January 19-22.30  - Reflections on the passing of a spectacular event Normal opening  11th-18th January 2009 (12-18.00 Saturdays and Sundays weekdays by appointment)

As the 10th of January will mark the finale of Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture, Wolstenholme Projects decided it would be interesting to ask the collaborative group, ‘Trace’ to consider the passing of a spectacular event as a point of creative departure.
