Art in Liverpool FM

art in liverpool fm logo webIt's my own personal history project stretching back to 2007 - with hundreds of recorded interviews, podcasts and plays. This section of the site is pretty old so don't expect it to work all the time and ignore it asking for Real Player to be loaded.

Fis 08 opened on Thursday evening with a private view of 12 contemporary Irish artists work on the 3rd floor of the Contempoary Urban Centre on Greenland Street, Liverpol.

Officially opened by the Irish Cultural Attaché Derek Hannon, with a speech delivered in Irish aswell as English, as were all the speeches.

Fis 08 recognises the strong links between Ireland and Liverpool and the influence that the Irish language has had upon the development of language in Liverpool.  Fís 2008 also includes a series of Irish language films and talks including one by Seamus Heaney the reknowned Irish poet.

Artists: Martin Campbell • Eamon Colman • Elizabeth Cope • Derek Culley • Rodney Dickson • Mary Fitzpatrick • Fiona Ní Mhaoilir • Pauline O’Connell • Geraldine O’Neill • Anna Marie Quinn • David Quinn • Raymond Watson.

North West based Derek Culley, one of the exhibting artists is the inspiration for the whole event after he was interviewed by the Daily Post after being awarded the Pollock_Krasner Foundation Grants 2006-2007.

Artist and curator of the show Eamon Coleman tells us about the show and about the strained relationship that the Irish have had with their own language.
