Capital Conversations - 30–31 October; Liverpool

Capital Conversations is a two-day seminar involving conversation, debate, provocation and performance, with keynote speakers from the UK and Europe, who will deliver papers and case studies on a variety of themes that have dance, culture, regeneration and legacy at their heart. 

This is an opportunity for anyone involved in dance, promotion, cultural programming, community regeneration and social impact to come together and contribute to this exciting event. These events will particularly interest artists, presenters, dance students and lecturers, local authority arts officers, journalists, arts council officers and arts curators.

Seminar 1: Does Dance Travel? (Making work for Europe/Making Europe work)
30 October, 10am–4pm, The Bluecoat, Liverpool

Curators, producers, artists, critics and academics from across Europe will speak on: alternative methodologies (UK/Europe), creating new work, attracting new audiences, producing and promoting work across Europe, and exploring systems of working for producers and artists.

Speakers include John Ashford (The Place, London), Richard Wakely (producer and consultant, Ireland), Zoi Dimitriou (choreographer and performer, Greece), Aline Nari, (choreographer and performer, Italy), Katja Werner (dance critic, Ballet Tanz, Berlin), Mary Brady (consultant and programmer, Ireland/UK) and Andrea Buckley (choreographer and performer, Liverpool), Liz Roche and Jenny Roche (choreographers and performers, Ireland)


Seminar 2: Dancing Capital (When dance comes to town)
31 October, 10am–4pm, The Treasure House Theatre, NML

Directors of cultural programmes and arts organisations, artists and academics will engage in themes of improving cultural collaboration, alternative ways of working, partnership and participation, creating new work, social impacts and regeneration, and legacy.

Keynote speakers will include Sir Bob Scott (Liverpool Culture Company), Ken Bartlett (Foundation for Community Dance, UK), Catherine Dunoyer (Dans à Lille), Liliana Popescu (Students Cultural House, Sibiu), Fearghus Ó Conhuir (choreographer, Ireland), Lisi Perry (Collisions, Liverpool), Bisakha Sarker (Chaturangan, Liverpool) and Peter Ward (Hope St Ltd, Liverpool).

Tickets are available for one or two days. For one day the price is £15 with a £10 concessionary rate. For two days the full price is £25, with a concessionary rate of £15, and a group booking price (for groups of 10 or more) of  £10 per person.
