What Prometheus teaches us about human recuperation after hibernation

On rewatching Prometheus I suddenly find an explanation for why the crew act in a very disjointed way towards each other. Why they aren’t acting as a team in the way that you would want them to. It’s something which explains their poor interactions.

Why is it we found it so hard to believe that they were a real team working together on this mission.

Well it’s all due to the length of time they had to recover from that long period of sleep. I know what I am like after waking up before coffee.

They emerged from hibernation with only a very brief time before they reach their destination, the planet is already in sight and the next day thy are scorching towards the planet and their deaths. This allowed them very little time to reorientate themselves with who they are, let alone before they have to act as a team to defeat the aliens.

Imagine how very different the story would have been if they had an extra 3 or 4 days recuperating in space before they had hit the planet. Valuable time to build the important bonds that a team needs outside of the mission objective.

So if and when we decide to start on deep space flights then we must think first about waking astronauts well before they arrive at their objective destination. NASA if your still around take note.

Of course a better script would have helped also but who am I to say.
