Freedom of Expression Sat 11 Oct

Freedom of Expression Sat 11 Oct

Following the meeting hosted by Nerve about Freedom of Expression a call has gone out for All groups to make their presence felt in Church St on Saturday
11th October:  ( This is Freedom Not Fear Day. See: http://www.vorratsdatenspeicherung.de/content/view/242/144/  )

We need to send a clear message to the police/council not to mess with our right to protest.

15 people from various groups (Animal Rights, AF, Socialist Party, Nerve, The Institute for the Art and Practice of Dissent at Home) and individuals
attended the first meeting on Saturday.  It was agreed that we invite all groups who protest on the streets of Merseyside, (including community and
tenants groups) to join forces by setting up an Alliance (name to be decided) which will explore ways of countering what was described as the
'zero tolerance' policy of the police against protesters.  As a start the Alliance will:

1. Ask all groups to gather in Church St. (see above, time to be decided). Each group to organise their own stall and, if possible, a creative piece for the event. Music, theatre, etc.
2. Produce a common leaflet for the event explaining what we are doing.
3. Contact the Merseyside Police Association to ask their views on street leafleting/protest.

Next meeting set for 1pm, 4th October in the Social Centre, Bold St.

La Dolce Vita

La Dolce VitaLiverpool-based artists Alan Dunn and David Jacques have collaborated with the immediate community around Rotunda Community College and various parties from Naples including napoliest on the production of La Dolce Vita, a temporary 80x10ft cinematic artwork across three billboards outside Rotunda. The composition has drawn imagery and narratives – both real and fictionalised - from community contributions around notions of Italophilia and Liverphilia as exemplified by the 1950’s trend of holidaying around the Bay of Naples. Woven across the billboards are conversations and reflections on Diego Maradona, routes across Naples and the set of photographs taken of the Bay Of Naples in 1960 by Peter Forster.

The billboards will be accompanied by an Italian-flavoured event at Rotunda, including an outdoor screening of La Dolce Vita, on Saturday 20th September 2008.
