Radio Grenouille: Broad and narrow

liverbird in liverpool kit in foregroundwith a brown rain cloud over 3 GracesAs part of Cities on the Edge - Radio Grenouille from Marseille uses radio as a space for communication, performance, creativity and social change.  They have moved their operations to Liverpool for the duration of Coming and Going and they'll broadcast into and out of the streets of the city from the foyer at FACT.  Their programmes will be an mix of music, sounds, voices and recipes from Liverpool, Marseille, Gdansk, Istanbul and Naples.

They've invited artists from all 5 cities to send a sound postcard of that place and, in Liverpool, are working with Tenantspin, a Liverpool-based community TV channel, to develop a bigger audio picture of the city.  Alongside the usual ways of listening to radio, Radio Grenouille will be narrowcasting to locations across the city: shops, restaurants, galleries and public spaces will all become listening locations playing CDs of their broadcast.

See listening locations here. Monday 17- Friday 21 November, 4.30pm-6.30pm

Come and meet the Radio Grenouille every evening in FACT during their broadcast.  Free.  FACT, 88 Wood Street, Liverpool L1 4DQ

The contemporary art world is at times unfathomable and intangible. What makes a decorated dead bull sell for £10 million, while your most talented mate struggles to scrape a decent review and 50 squids? How do you get from art student, to art super star?
Many consider this apparent lottery to be directly related to the whims of Charles Saatchi, and in a way it is. The power of Saatchi’s wallet is undoubtedly a force with considerable influence, in the same way that Simon Cowell’s taste in music shapes what a large proportion of the population considers to be a decent tune. But the world of contemporary art is governed by a multitude of factors, all working co-dependently to support artists, gallerists, curators, critics, writers and an inexhaustible list of other interested individuals.
