punk-folk band

Adrian Edmondson returns to Live Lounge with the world’s first punk-folk band.  Adrian Edmondson is returning to Liverpool to bring his irreverent, madcap humour as the front man of his new band The Bad Shepherds – the world’s first Celtic punk-folk band.  Ade has teamed up with top folk musicians, Andy Dinan and Troy Donockley for a new exclusive UK tour following the release of their new album called ‘Yan, Tyan, Tethera, Methera!’ which came out in April 2009. They return to Live Lounge in October having been one of the first acts to play there in December 2008. The Bad Shepherds play punk songs on folk instruments. Not as a gag, but because they really like the noise. They believe the songs are better than people remember, they love folk instruments and it works.  They cover songs by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Jam, Sham 69, The Undertones, The Buzzcocks, The Ramones, The Specials, Talking Heads, Squeeze and others, even Kraftwerk! Alright, they’re not all punk, but they come from roughly the same era. They’ve mostly given the songs a kind of Celtic feel, and stuck in the odd reel and jig here and there. But occasionally they just thrash! Adrian feels the excitement of a reel taking off is the nearest thing to the excitement of watching punk live in the 70’s.Adrian said “I love the songs of 76 – 82. I was 19 in 76 when punk arrived. Those songs were the soundtrack to my life as I went through Uni and started pretending to be a comedian. I loved the noise, the faces and the attitude. I love making music. Got my first guitar when I was 13 and along the way I’ve picked up ten other guitars, a banjo, a ukulele, two trumpets, a banjolele, a mandolin, an autoharp, a charanga, two pianos, a tenor guitar, a triangle and even made myself some Coconuts (strangely enough – from a coconut). I also love folk music; I love the noise – at its live best it’s the most exciting music to be in the same room with. It occurred to me that punk was the folk music of its day. I decided to form a band to reflect all of the above. It would be great if you came along for the ride”.Adrian’s daughter Ella Edmondson will support The Bad Shepherds at the Live Lounge.PERFORMANCE DETAILS ADRIAN EDMONDSON & THE BAD SHEPHERDSSupport Ella EdmondsonWednesday 28 October 2009Tickets: £15 adv /£17 door. LIVE LOUNGE, Baby Blue, Edward Pavilion, Albert Dock, Liverpool, L3 4AF Tickets for Live Lounge @ Baby Blue can be purchased through the Liverpool Echo Arena Box Office on the ACC Live Hotline on 0844 8000 410 (Mon–Sat 9am-9pm and Sun 10am–4pm)Or online – www.echoarena/livelounge For further concert information and full listings visit www.babybluelivelounge.co.uk -ENDS- NOTES TO EDITOR Baby BlueBaby Blue is one of Liverpool’s most established clubs and performance spaces, with a growing reputation for showcasing the finest comedy talents in the UK and has now launched Live Lounge, an intimate night of live music in stylish surroundings. It’s my own personal history project stretching back to 2007 – with hundreds of recorded interviews, podcasts and plays. This section of the site is pretty old so don’t expect it to work all the time and ignore it asking for Real Player to be loaded.

So Listener beware!!!

Take you pick from a selection of Liverpool audio guides, its musical history, heritage tours, slavery remembrance tours, and Visit England’s official guide.
