Save Sgt. Peppers – Liverpool cafe

Penny Lane based Sgt. Peppers cafe is crumbling and becomes home to itinerant Pigeons.     This world famous historic building is slowly falling down after decades of neglect and numerous owners. Situated on the main junction of the world famous Penny Lane area of Liverpool, the cafe once a former public toilets is slowly crumbing on the inside after failed renovations.  The cafe  ‘I haven’t known it to be open for 10 years, which is a terrible shame as it could be a real attraction to the thousands of devoted Beatles fans who come to Liverpool every year to see the places that they made famous.’ There is ample room around the cafe for a proper tables and chairs situated in the sunshine, selling memorabilia.

Penny Lane mentioned in the song referred to the area not just the road itself, we have already seen the Fire Station close on Penny Lane itself and it would be such a shame to see the building fall down. Liverpool City Council’s Heritage committee do not even have it on there radar as a building that needs saving. For to long has the building been in the hands of area of Liverpool

It’s my own personal history project stretching back to 2007 – with hundreds of recorded interviews, podcasts and plays. This section of the site is pretty old so don’t expect it to work all the time and ignore it asking for Real Player to be loaded.

So Listener beware!!!

Take you pick from a selection of Liverpool audio guides, its musical history, heritage tours, slavery remembrance tours, and Visit England’s official guide.
