Disrupted: An evening with Dan Lyons

Dan Lyons - TEDxLiverpool

TedxLiverpool have a special author event happening this Thursday, 7th September at Unit 51 in Baltic Creative as they welcome Dan Lyons, the former Technology Editor at Newsweek Magazine, a magazine writer at the top of his profession.

One Friday morning he received a phone call: his job no longer existed. Fifty years old and with a wife and two young kids, Dan was unemployed and facing financial oblivion. Then an idea hit. Dan had long reported on Silicon Valley and the tech explosion. Why not join it? HubSpot, a Boston start-up, was flush with $100 million in venture capital. They offered Dan a pile of stock options for the nebulous role of “marketing fellow.” What could possibly go wrong?

TEDxLiverpool are welcoming US tech journalist Dan Lyons back to Liverpool as he launches his bestselling book, Disrupted, in the UK. Dan is a Boston-based author & speaker. He was formerly co-producer & writer for the TV series “Silicon Valley” and tech editor for Newsweek & Forbes magazines. Dan’s also spoken at TEDxLiverpool.

“We’ve convinced Dan to return to Liverpool to tell us about his new book as well as his many years covering Silicon Valley and the tech industry. If you’ve got any interest in the tech industry or startups, you won’t want to miss it!” So why not join Dan, Herb Kim and your friends from 5.30pm onwards at Unit 51.

It’s a free event but you’ll need to register quickly as it’s limited to 100!

Booking is through eventbrite

It’s my own personal history project stretching back to 2007 – with hundreds of recorded interviews, podcasts and plays. This section of the site is pretty old so don’t expect it to work all the time and ignore it asking for Real Player to be loaded.

So Listener beware!!!

Take you pick from a selection of Liverpool audio guides, its musical history, heritage tours, slavery remembrance tours, and Visit England’s official guide.
