Ignite Liverpool - the line up is announced

ignite_logo_tinyThis years Global Ignite Week (GIW) celebrations here in liverpool UK, are coming up on the 8th Februray at the Liverpool Art and Design Academy and the line up for this match has just been announced. (sounds a bit like a contest but it isn't)

Ignite makes everyone a rock star for 5 minutes

Ignite is a global presenting  phenomenon, summed up by the catch phrase -  Enlighten us but make it quick. - And it is quick, 5 minutes per person for their presentation and as they talk sometimes at a racing pace the powerpoint slides are slowly changing, ticking down to the final flame screen which spells the end of there own personal presenting hell or their own personal victory over nerves and doubts. I think it is always a personal victory for everyone who has ever presented - even if some do have to be dragged to the front.

Encounters with strangers

petecarrPhotographer Peter Carr is set to launch an innovative Social Media photography experiment at this weeks Social Media Cafe.

Encounters with strangers is billed as a photography exhibition that merges the real and virtual worlds

The unique exhibition will be part of the Look11 festival photography festival  and will feature portrait photos of strangers – nothing unusual there perhaps. However instead of displaying these portraits in the traditional manner in a gallery, the photographer is using social media to let the public encounter each photo out on the street in the location where it was taken.

Social media Cafe - the art one

It’s great in Liverpool at the moment, the leaves may be falling from the tress but to make up for it we are surrounded by some world class won’t see it all in a weekend art, yep the the Liverpool Biennial is on, the derelict shops are no longer, now they are full of images that intrigue, inspire and excite us. So this month we decided to have a look at the way that arts organisations big and small use social media.

We will be being joined by Antony Pickthall from the Liverpool Biennial to guide us through the story of putting together a social media campaign for an international event, the perils and pitfalls but the successes too.

From the big to the small with the Fab Collective, a Liverpool based photography collective – they’ll enlighten us with what they gained by collaborating and how Social Media is developing for the world of photography.

Plus, we bring you an open source issue - Feng Office Suite – the story of an arts based collaborative software. But where does it go from here – where to take it? Help is needed to answer this one so bring your thinking caps.
