This weeks show highlights the Liverpool Art Prize 2008 and we talk to Pete Moser, director of More Music about the Long Walk project.

The Liverpool Art Prize at the Urban Cultural Centre (NOVAS) is open till 7 May


Coming up This weekend sees the Long Walk in Liverpool on the 15 and 16 March at Cornerstone at Hope University, produced by award winning More Music, their director Pete Moser discusses the project. Listen to the interview in the pod. Tickets are available through the Philharmoonic Box office.

Bryan Biggs, Artistic Director of the Bluecoat, Liverpool talks further to us about its programme and new spaces.

This is the additional material from the Art in Liverpool podcast - 4 March 2008, Byran talks informally about  about the Bluecoats opening programme.

Bryan discusses the Gallery opening 7 Days a week, the fantastic restuarant, Alex Finlay’s Bird boxes, their ‘Best of’ project where artists have been encouraged to send in their work and their aims of bringing the visitor closer to artwork as it is made.

He discusses the performing arts programme - music Liverpol based Clinic, local folk singer John Smith,  Yoko Ono, Mike Westbrook Band, Steve Reid Ensemble , and it’s Literature programme with Jeanette Winterson, Howard Marks,  and Tom Paulin, and how it is working with Writing on the Wall,

He also covers the print making studio which will be developing print making in the city for artists - and how Norman Ackroyd is coming to talk about prinmaking; The artist studios and the planned gallery talks including poetry by Alex Finlay. An extended show this week as Bryan Biggs, artistic director of the Bluecoat comes in to talk to us.

Coming up - Ian has been working hard on the Liverpool Art Prize at the Urban Cultural Centre (NOVAS) which opened on the the Thursday 28 February - open till 7 May

Liverpool Art Prize has been a great success, with over 500 visitors including Phil Redmond. The opening was broadcast live on BBC Northwest Tonight and Ian was interviewed on Dean Sullivan’s show on city talk fm. Please vote for the People’s Choice  before end of Saturday 8 March.  The Awards will be announced on Sunday 9 March 3pm in the Contemporary Urban Centre.

 

Patrick Henry, Director of the Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool talks to us about its history, its activities and its future in a brand new space.

Open Eye started in the  1970’s and was based down in the Whitechapel area of Liverpool, in the Grapes Hotel by Victors the barbers. Liverpool was on the dole and the Open Eye was there to reflect the times of the once great city.  Open Eye History


As the years have gone by the city has changed, and the now Open Eye GALLERY is still there reflecting the changes in the city.

In 96-97 the Open Eye moved from Bold Street, it;s home for many years to Wood Street – it had a new space and a new identity has emerged from that. Now in this its 31st year we talk to Patrick Henry it’s most recent Director about the past, present and the future for one of the cities best loved galleries.

  • artist talks where every exhibiting photographer gives a gallery talk

  • perspective talks, where a non artist is invited in to discuss the artwork
