Round up of the Week

The Prepaid Auction went well at th Cornerstone Gallery, raising about £2k. Ian and Minako got a lovely monoprint by Holly Johnson for only £10 plus a couple of other pictures they really liked.

DING>>DONG at Fact - Ian enjoyed the interactive stuff - m-log in the media lounge, while I manage to miss the media Lounge completely however the Energy Suite looked good and the fractured orchestra was very interesting to the ear.

At the Bluecoat - Next Up - 39 locally based artists work fill the spaces. Do take a look at Alana Dunns work in the main gallery and if anyone would like to create some audio in response to his work then let me know.

Open Eye Intersections Intersected by David Goldblatt.  A well presented show of monochrome alongside colourprints by the South African photographer.  Migration at the CUC - a group show by Red Dot's Colin Serjent and Sue Milburn.

And great fun was had at the Tate 5th Floor with the Ideas Taking Space - the Sunday opeing included a kids disco, 5 dimensions game, chalking on the wall.

Opening this week

Tate officially opens 5th floor show, which will have lots of tenantspin broadcasts and a big Mercy gig on this Saturday.
And the Ice skating returns to St George's plateau from Friday  19th December.

No show next week - but Happy Christmas and hear from us in the New Year.

News

A new body has been set up to ensure Capital of Culture has a lasting legacy in Liverpool, Cultural Collective, will look to build on the successes of this year. The small independent body headed by The Culture Company's creative director Phil Redmond, will not fund events but make sure arts organisations across the city continue to work together It is hoped the collective's work, which is expected to run for three to five years, will be funded by the North West Development Agency. On a different note Liverpool City Council's Executive Board is also to consider plans to maintain arts funding in the region of £4.1m per annum for the next two years.

Art in Liverpool FmThe Biennial is over and Ian has a Carousel in his Living room after the Biennial auction, and as we enjoy the rotating music we discuss places to go to buy arty gifts for Christmas. But the Liverpool art world goes on with more exhibitions DING DONG as Leslie Philips might say. We also offer some hints on staying warm for volunteers in Gallery spaces.

NEWS
The Liverpool Biennial is finished but some of the public realm works from the International 08 exhibition will be staying a little longer – including Ai Weiwei’s Web of Light (until January), Atelier Bow-Wow’s Rockscape (until September 09) and Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s Arbores Laetae (throughout next year and beyond). The Closing auction was on Sunday 30th November 2008 which went well, raising nearly £2,000, some of it from Ian, and he got a few bargains - But not the Carousel.
