FREE LIVERPOOL RADICAL FILM FESTIVAL STARTS THURSDAY.

Banned films, banned film makers
4 Days of radical film and discussion
All events free
Organised by local volunteers
Thursday 22nd Oct to Sunday 25th

The aim of the Liverpool Radical Film Festival is to bring radical films to new audiences. We screen films that present alternative, marginalised or challenging social, political, cultural and ethical perspectives to open up discussion about these topics and promote positive action. As well as pushing the political avant-garde, we screen films that challenge the formal and aesthetic boundaries of film, and which break the monopoly of “professionalism” that dictates how films should be made, distributed and exhibited.

In order to connect radical film with new groups and screen them in alternative spaces, we put on an annual Festival (established 2012) and run regular screenings/events at various points throughout the year. Film and screening events such as ours can be powerful ways of:

  • raising awareness about issues that impact on our lives, communities and shared world
  • providing a safe space in which these issues can be discussed and opportunities for communities to come together to work as a team combat such issues
  • challenging mainstream representations and providing a voice for marginalised individuals and groups
  • cultivating new audiences for radical film and creating & maintaining an alternative film culture

The Festival and its activities are run by volunteers, and we are always keen to meet like minded people. If you’d like to join the team, get in touch!
