Last year’s judging panel, composed of Sook-Kyung Lee (Curator Tate Liverpool), Mike Stubbs, CEO and Director FACT), Laura Davis, (Arts Editor Liverpool Daily Post) and Markus Soukup (Digital artist and winner of Liverpool Art Prize 2011) had a task of choosing between the four shortlisted artists: Wallasey based audio and installation Alan Dunn, graffiti artist and painter Tomo, Jon Barraclough and Mike Carney from The Drawing Paper, and filmmaker and installation artist Robyn Woolston. The overall award went to Robyn Woolston whose outstanding piece, representing a dead tree surrounded by a sea of plastic forks and spoons made a strong statement about man’s treatment of environment. Visitors to Metal at Edge Hill Station also voted on their favourite works, awarding the £1000 People’s Choice Award to Tomo. Joining the 2013 judging panel of Liverpool Art Prize 2013 are Tim Etchells, Sally Tallant, Robyn Woolston and Laura Davis.
Tim Etchells is an artist and a writer based in the UK whose work shifts between performance, visual art and fiction. He has worked in a wide variety of contexts, notably as the leader of the world-renowned performance group Forced Entertainment. He is currently Professor of Performance at Sheffield University.
Sally Tallant is the Artistic Director and CEO of the Liverpool Biennial and a former Head of Programmes at the Serpentine Gallery, London. She has curated and organised exhibitions, performances, sound events, film programmes and conferences in a wide range of contexts including the Hayward Gallery and the Serpentine Gallery Pavilions. She is a Trustee of the Chisenhale Gallery and Raking Leaves, the External Examiner for MA Fine Art at Central St Martins. Laura Davis, who will once again be joining the Liverpool Art Prize judging panel, is an Arts Editor at Liverpool Daily Post. With her “finger on the pulse” of Liverpool arts, she covers theatre, music, dance and the visual arts in Merseyside and beyond.
Robyn Woolston, Winner of the Liverpool Arts Prize 2012 is a Liverpool-based artist and filmmaker whose practice reveals structures and raises questions concerning social, economic and ecological perspectives. Her processes involve Installation, photography, moving image, print and on-line projects. As a Producer her practice also covers Curating, Research & Development.
They will decide on the four shortlisted artists that will exhibit next year following an open call for nominations.
