LJMU Fame Lab 001 A bit of a late post but a post all the same as I came across the images from FameLab.

I'd volunteered my time to be on the judging panel at the Liverpool heat of FAMELab UK, the national science and engineering communications competition.

"Previous winners of FAMELab have gone on to travel the globe, deliver TED talks, inspire school children and feature on radio and TV.

Candidates are judged on three criteria: content, clarity and charisma! Each participant - a young researcher, student or science teacher - introduces the topic of her or his choice in three minutes and is judged by a panel of professionals from the fields of science communication, research, and the media.

Emma-Lou won with her presentation entitled Sea Salt… and Vinegar? and will now go on to the regional final.

Judge Dr Zoe Knowles commented: “We were all impressed with Emma’s use of simple props, confident delivery and a clear science message that had left us thinking and wondering ‘what if…?’ For me that’s great science communication.”

It was a really fun way to spend an afternoon and Emma-Lou's presentation was really great, although I'm not sure how she got on at the final. But is was good to see so many of the participants down at Ignite Liverpool that evening.
