I had a small and poorly formed idea this morning about setting up a quaint radio station which would only broadcast within a very small geographic area.
The idea was to set up a server to stream audio content via a WiFi connection. Yep a WiFi connection…. So the PC would have been set up as a server with Icecast installed plus a pile of MP3’s I had carefully selected. The PC would be connected to a router so that listeners could connect via an open WiFi connection to Radio Quaint. Listeners or seekers of the eternal truth would be greeted with a splash page (read web page) which contained an embeded radio player.
Yep, that was it…… You would have to be within about 5 metres of the streaming server to connect to the WiFi. It would mean you would disconnect from a useful WiFi which connects you to the INTERNET where thousands of online radio stations exist just to be able to listen to Radio Quaint.
Yes, it has it’s drawbacks but I love small ideas.
And yes there are loads of ways of doing it differently to stream across the world, admittedly by the end of the day it had developed into a project that was going to take up loads of my time and stream worldwide.
No matter where it goes I still want to create radio quaint so wish me luck.
