Helping arts organisations reach the press without having to keep a press list.
It’s an idea for a quick WordPress install where you can post press releases to it and when approved they get sent out to a list of people by category, music, visual arts etc. I’ll keep the list clean you just post the press release.
This is a vast subject but I will keep it simple and only cover a small part of setting up an online store.
Reading through some posts on this site I appear to start the most recent ones with “A friend asked me this week how” but this post is different it wasn’t this week it was last week.
So a friend asked me last week how to or what to use to set up an online shop for her website. It was to sell artwork through and she didn’t state what platform she was using –
So I had a look and this is what I found and suggested as software to set up an online store
As an example I suggested this one Rokcart which is for Joomla and the example here is the one from my site – I don’t use it but it works and looks pretty good. It is easy to add inventory and you can control the layout and look.
Have an extensive inventory
Moving on to some more generic advice – It is better to have as much listed and available to buy through your online shop. It makes great reading for those little google search bots but also if everything is for sale then have it available online. Categorising your stock is important so that visitors who wish to ourchase form one category don;t get confused with another category and distracted – high price goods v’s low price goods. Have goods well categorized so pin badges are not next to your high priced fine art.
Here are some examples of the WordPress plugin called eshop
Another good idea is to use a catalogue which you make available via Issuu.com only so that people can peruse it and then by online. You don’t have to print copies simply send people to an online version. See this article for a bit more information on Issuu.
If you have any suggestions for plugins or ways to improve setting up an online shop then the comments are open please let me know.
I’ve just installed WPtouch on this wordpress blog and to be honest I am really pleased with the results. I do pretty much ignore this blog as I have the main defnetmedia website to deal with but I won’t much longer I promise you my lovely blog.
So if you want your WordPress blog to be visible to a much larger audience easily then get this loaded so they aren’t constantly scrolling scrolling scrolling. It’s nice quick and easy to install.
I had great news today when I clicked on a Musicians newsletter which took me to his brand new website. The great news was that he had taken my advice and switched to put his efforts into his wordpress site. He had been using bandzoogle, which wasn’t a site that had even entered my radar, not that my radar is that extensive but now he has seen his hit rate rising which can only be good.
Any site if you want it to be good you need to put work into and Alun has clearly put a lot of work into his and he needs to spread the word about work and his associated insterests which go hand in hand in. It’s a big lesson for all of us it is no good just blowing your won trumpet if you want to be heard you have to play a few instruments.
Take a look and see the great way he has incoporated not just his news but others, incorporating audio and gigs. In fact he has incorpoarted a much social media into his site as possible and it is a great example of what can be achieved.
Even his byline “slice of life musical storytelling with a socialist message” or as we would describe in today’s parlance his USP has been carefully crafted to let you know what it is on the Tin.
When I posted about a wordpress success i didn’t include any images, very slack of me I must admit.
When I look at Aluns site is really does make me wonder if I should be making this sand_box site a little easier on the eye. But great use of audio and video.
