Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw was in town today meeting kids who have been benefitting from the Government initiative ‘Find Your Talent‘ which aims to help children and young people discover new things, express themselves, develop a passion and to make the most of their talent – whether it is music, art, film, theatre, dance, digital media, exploring libraries, museums or heritage.

Led by National Museums Liverpool, the Liverpool pilot programme has been developed in partnership with the leading arts organisations in the city including The Bluecoat, FACT, Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Tate Liverpool and the Unity Theatre. Since it began a year ago 6429 young people and over 400 education professionals have been engaged in Find Your Talent

Liverpool READS Launched today – pick up your FREE book. The Savage by David Almond, Illustrated by Dave McKean. One of the greatest films of all time, Marlon Brando’s ‘On The Waterfront’, is coming to Liverpool in a great free open air spectacular.

Round Up of the Week

We had a day out in Blackburn to see the Strange World exhibition, part of PlAAy – the 2 year programme of contemporary Asian Art in Blackburn and Darwen. Then we went to the opening of the Bloomberg New Contemporaries which features 47 new or recent graduates at Cornerhouse.

Jane Hughes – ‘A year in the life of the Cornerstone’

Since November 2008 Jane Hughes has been involved in a documentary project at the Cornerstone Building, Liverpool Hope University’s Creative and Performing Arts Campus, where she has been Artist in Residence.

Arena – Folkloristics

Exhibition presented by Baltic in collaboration with Arena Art & Design Association.  Baltic is a coalition between two Liverpool based artists, Anna Benson and Roisin Hyland.?Folkloristics is the culmination of new collaborative work.

We also saw inside the Oratory for the first time as part of Heritage Open Days which continues till the end of this week.

The Urbanism 09 presented by Liverpool Biennial reaches a climax in a Water-borne parade including an upturned Black Cab, a floating Mint Teahouse and a whole variety of crafts created by artists and residents who live in the neighbourhoods along the canal; giving a whole new meaning to the traditional processional ‘float’.  St Winnie’s School is on Merton Road, Bootle, L207AR (just across the road from Oriel Road Station).

The Bluecoat celebrates Lowry’s centenary with an ambitious programme that includes an exhibition, a book, live music, dance, talks and special participatory events such as a Mexican Day of the Dead altar dedicated to Lowry. OPENS: Bridget Riley: Flashback

FRIDAY 25 September 2009 at The Walker Art Gallery 
Bridget Riley: Flashback is the first in a major new series of touring exhibitions from the Arts Council collection, Southbank Centre. Riley’s distinctive and optically vibrant paintings generate extraordinary sensations of movement, light and space. Eight large scale paintings will be on show, with four coming from Riley’s personal collection. Alongside these are aound 30 drawings and studies that illuminate her working methods over her five-decade-long-career. Many of these will be exhibited for the first time.  Exhibition details
