Digital Arts Commission - 30 Years Of...

30 Years Of… is a commission, which is designed to be delivered by a digital arts organisation with a specific focus of engaging with ex-miners, their families and the communities where pits once were.

As part of this commission we are looking for a digital arts organisation to utilise modern technology to engage participants’ (former miners and their families) in the process of capturing their own, their communities and the towns heritage.

Ignite Liverpool call out for speakers

Ignite Liverpool is an evening of lightening fast talks that inspire, amuse and enlighten. It has been taking place quarterly since 2010 and is organised by a group of volunteers who love enabling other people to share ideas and passions.

Their next event is on the 8th May at Leaf Cafe on Bold Street, Liverpool.

Ignite Liverpool has about 10-15 speakers who take to the stage to give a short 5 minute presentation on their chosen subject, yep we really did say presentation - we even insist on it being powerpoint..... but don't let that put you off as the presentation acts mainly as a backdrop to your talk, with the slides changing every 15 seconds as you go through your rehearsed talk.

Jelly Liverpool enables delegates to escape their normal working environment, be that the spare room, rented desk space or usual café and join in what has become the co-working event that enables people to make new contacts in an informal way whilst still allowing them to work on their deadlines and maintain productivity.

TechHub Manchester is hosting a OpenData + Wearable devices hackathon on the 15-16th March. It is for Makers, designers, programmers, spreadsheet wizards

Numbers That Matter aims to explore what would happen if people could create smart devices that reported very specific data to the wearer - numbers that mattered to them the most. If we could invent a watch that told you that your neighbours were probably bored and looking for companionship, if we could invent a litmus badge that changed colour telling you how healthy the areas you frequent are, if we could invent a bandana that unfurled in sociable places, how would it affect us? Would they change our behaviour as individuals – but more interestingly, could they help us become more aware citizens?
