In this workshop participants will learn how to create simple location-based augmented reality artworks using the free platform Layar (www.layar.com). The first evening will teach the basics of location-based AR; on the second evening partipants should bring material to create their own works, which we will place in FACT and the surrounding city.
A founding member of the cyberartist group Manifest.AR, Thiel will be starting two collaborative projects with FACT as part of the Manifest.AR ARtSense commission, with a scheduled exhibition at FACT in March 2013. She and another 4 Manifest.AR artists will be back in Liverpool from 11th-22nd June to do further work these and other projects. AR Workshop participants are gladly invited to collaborate!
Prerequisites:
- Basic image processing (Photoshop etc) and basic PC knowledge needed. No programming or 3D knowledge necessary, but if you have it you can do more complicated works on your own.
- Smartphone (Android or iPhone4) or iPad2 necessary – or else bring a friend who has one and with whom you can work together!
- Laptop or there are 12 computers available to use
