Independents Biennial - Register now - URGENT - Artists, curators and galleries who want to be in Independents need to register and enter details before 7th August - www.independentsbiennial.org

Cains Brewery - has announced a £4.5 Million half year loss - as a big supporter of the Capital of Culture and events such as the Turner Prize at Tate Liverpool, this will clearly affect local cultural institutions who are always looking to local businesses for support. Go and buy a pint of Cains and support a local business.

Noise Festival - old news but if you are under 25 and creative then you should register now, to take part in this forthcoming festival. They had a great Festival last time around with great TV coverage and is your chance of having you work discovered.

 

 

 

 Round up of the week

Fis 08Fis 2008 Exhibition 25 July - 7 September 2008 - Recognising the strong links between Ireland and Liverpool the exhibition features the work of 12 contemporary Irish artists. Fís 2008 also includes a series of Irish language films and talks.  Ian was drawn to Artist Raymond Watson exhibit in this 12 person show - where he has a young women locked in a cage, standing on a bible placed on a refrigerated floor. This represent the time when Raymond was a political prisoner in Longkesh when the only two things the staff were obliged to give you were a Bible and a blanket.

Jaws at Microzine - Give us an hand - a severed arm in fact from the Jaws movie continues through August  - Microzine has joined forces with renowned ‘Jaws' movie fan, archivist and collector, Edward McCormack to launch ‘Jaws - The Exhibition'. A former moderator of the Jawsmovie.com forum, Edward now runs the website jawsmoviearchives.com and is a site administrator on ‘The Jaws Board' forum, as well as cultivating one of the most extensive and wide-ranging collections of ‘Jaws' memorabilia worldwide, ranging from original movie posters to actual movie props and even the odd severed limb....

Late at Tate Liverpool: Attention to Detail - 6pm - 9pm - Dissect and critique Klimt's Wiener Werkstätte years in an evening of analysis and reflection while enjoying a complimentary glass of Perrier-Jouët champagne.

Saturday 2 August

Imagine Carnival in Princes Park - Brouhaha's carnival parade down Princes Avenue culminating at Princes Park. Noon - 7pm  - 4 Stages means that there will be something for everyone - a really great family day out, take a blanket, water and plenty of money - get there early so the queues for the food aren't to long.

dsc01331.JPGAlternatively - One sweet afternoon event at the Afoundation - 2-4pm. As part of the Port City exhibition the audience got to vote on a new piece for Meschac Gaba's fantasy port cityscape sugar model. Well the votes are cast and the results are in and you are invited to the grand unveiling of the winner, with an afternoon of activities for the whole family.

A special screening of Love Lane Lives, the film by Ron Noon and Leon Seth about Liverpool's sugar industry. A fabulous array of sweets, cakes and ice-cream - yes. The Port City exhibition continues to 24 August 2008 but there won't be cakes!

Sunday 3rd August

Kitchen Gallery at Upton Priory. Transient - A solo exhibition of new digital prints, multi-media projections and sound works by Stanislaw Jan Krakiewicz, exploring the potential of spaces inhabited and otherwise. Viewing Sunday 3 August 1.30pm - 4pm Exhibition continues to 24th August.

Fis 08More from Fis 08 Talk and Film - at the Contemporary Urban Centre 2pm Major New Irish Film, "KINGS" starring Colm Meaney and Donal O' Kelly, following a talk by Patrick Fitzgerald of The Centre For Migration Studies in Omagh who will chronicle the history of migration between north west England and Ireland .The film 'Kings' is adapted from Jimmy Murphy's acclaimed play ‘The Kings of the Kilburn High Road'.

A great initiative from the Bluecoat Display Centre a National Sculpture prize with £1000 prize for the winner - 9 August - 9 September. Viewing on 8 August

Dadafest- disabled artists and disability arts festival - coming up at the beginning of September with Laurence Clarke with his show Spasticus Fantasticus at the Bluecoat. It will be launched in August but starts in September.

Audio VisionLiverpool's first Audio Visual Festival - (not sure if that is true really but that is what they say -I'd like to see a definition of this) runs from 15 -19 September. Visual installations, Live VJ'd Music performances, Artist screenings, visual workshops and an outdoor bike-in theatre. Specially commissioned projected installation onto the façade of the Mersey Tunnel 1930's Air Vent, from NOMO (NYC/Sweden) and Jacqueline Passmore (live visual artist for Stereolab) Live Performance and collaboration from Addictive TV (#1 VJ's in the world - DJ Magazine Poll) and local artists Kinetic Fallacy, 20th Sept 2008. THE BIG ONE APPROACHES - the Liverpool biennial - the biggest contemporary visual arts festival in the UK, this year subtitled MADE UP. More on this later but Yoko will be back along with Tracy Emin.  And don't forget the Liverpool Independent Strand
