The Xmas Lights are on but there was no big launch this year, maybe everyone was to busy at the MTV awards. Ian was far to busy with the Tenatspin and the Cultural Commentators.  Liverpool Live 08 has started at Bluecoat and the deadline for Liverpool Art Prize nominations is Saturday 15th November.

Common Ground: Belfast 1993 - 1998. 6 November - 6 December 2008
Liverpool based artist Mary Fitzpatrick shows for the first time a series of photographs that chronicles her time in Belfast from 1993-1998.
Cast by Nature by Lisa Who. Exhibition 8 - 22 November 2008 at Curve Gallery Victoria Street.
"Cast by Nature" is a multiple installation piece by Lisa Who reflecting on the female form as the vessel for life.

THIS WEEK
Metafex has started and is a meta-conceptual festival running from the 9th to the 23rd of November 2008.
Inspired by Pontifex by Theodore Roszak and the work of Ken Campbell.

Run by The Art Organisation Liverpool and in TAO's spaces and The Everyman Theatre, highlights include a 2008 minute improvisation, Liverpool Oh Wait! at the Kazimier club in Wolstenholme Square, and a Ken Campbell tribute show at the Everyman Theatre.

Peter Halligan lectures on The Pool of Life, The School of Language, Music Dream and Pun, and the Science Fiction Theatre of Liverpool. Followed by a round table discussion with Peter, Chris Bernard, Lawrence Sidurczuk and Gregory Scott-Gurner.
Thursday 13th
Dana Andersen (Die Nasty, Edmonton Alberta): Long form improvisation masterclass.
Transition Private View. Art show by the original community of the 491 gallery, Leytonstone.

Friday 14th
Dana Andersen masterclass.
Ken Campbell's School of Night, 7pm, Mellomello

Coming and Going - by Quarantine

Coming and Going, 10 – 23 November 2008, is a two week programme of events investigating migration and cultural identity with artists, experts and “ordinary people” from five edgy cities: Liverpool, Naples, Istanbul, Gdansk and Marseille.

It’s been commissioned by Liverpool Culture Company from Quarantine, an award-winning theatre company based in Manchester.
“Quarantine has created a body of beautiful, fragile and authentic work, which finds the extraordinary in the ordinary lives of real people.”

Radio Grenouille -
Radio Grenouille from Marseille uses radio as a space for communication, performance, creativity and social change. They have moved their operations to Liverpool for the duration of Coming and Going and they’ll broadcast into and out of the streets of the city from Monday 17 – Friday 21 November. There will be more about this here

Marsatac: Play on Marseille music promoters Marsatac have brought together a diverse group of musicians from Marseille and Liverpool. All originate from outside their city and together represent a dynamic mix of musical forms and traditions. Hassan Boukerrou, Alif Tree, Ulrich Wolters (Marseille), Talib Hamafaraj, Olu Olaseinde, and Hannah Peel (Liverpool) will spend 12 days together creating new music to be premiered at the closing event of Coming and Going.

Ali Taptik: Transit
Photographer Ali Taptik has visited five ‘cities on the edge’: Liverpool, Marseille, Gdansk, Naples and his home city of Istanbul. His remarkable images, a meditation on travel, loneliness and love, can be found in maps distributed around the city.

In the neighbourhood…
Five Liverpool residents with origins across the world – India, Nigeria, Poland, Greece, Ireland and the Yemen - are inviting neighbours they don’t yet know into their homes for a meal. One meal host was born in Liverpool, one has been here for years, another arrived a few weeks ago. Istanbul sociologist and food expert Dr Zafer Yenal will be at each meal to share thoughts with the hosts about the history and politics of the food they’re preparing and reflect on how the personal journey of the cook mirrors bigger stories of global migration.

When we talk about food we talk about everything
To close the project, there’s an evening of music, food and conversation to weave together all the strands of Coming and Going. Meal hosts from the In the Neighbourhood strand and their guests share food and discoveries from eating together. Zafer Yenal talks about the stories behind the food and its political and cultural journeys. Radio Grenouille broadcast live from the event and share sounds from their fortnight in Liverpool. Ali Taptik shows his photographs (and you will receive one of his maps). There’ll be live new music from the band: a dynamic, unpredictable hybrid of percussion, voice, electronica, fiddle, cooking sounds and more…

ProFusion International Creative Consultancy brings to Liverpool two extraordinary productions of the prestigious ‘Radu Stanca’ National Theatre of Sibiu, Romania.

Saturday 15th - if you aren't watching a 24hour long improvised performance then come to The Night of the Owl at the Afoundation an evening of sound performances in association with SoundNetwork. During the summer of 2008 the Owl Project worked with musicians Leafcutter John, Kaffe Matthews and Thor Magnusson (IXI software) to develop a range of new wooden instruments for live performance. Night of the Owl will be a chance to see and hear some of the first results of this collaboration as well as other classic Owl Project instruments such as ilogs and log1Ks.
