warningIn the wake of the closure of greenroom, Manchester's home for experimental theatre and performance, comes a brand new enterprise: Word of Warning, a pop-up programme of new performance, coming to a Manchester space very soon.

Launching on Friday 17 February at Zion Arts Centre in Hulme, Manchester with long-standing greenroom favourites Third Angel's new show What I Heard About The World, Word of Warning promises a season of the bizarre, the beautiful and the best new shows for anyone looking for a different night out.

Press Release Continues
Brought to you by hÅb, greenroom's partner of over a decade, Director Tamsin Drury said
"We are really excited to have the chance to keep some of the legacy alive. There was a real sense of loss when greenroom closed and we want to bring back the essence of something that was so very Mancunian. We're not po-faced or exclusive - the work will be funny, touching, irreverent and moving and it's really for anyone who wants something a bit different, a bit challenging or a bit inspiring from their nights out. People might not know hÅb, but might know some of our events - like the long runnning emergency - an annual crazy day and a half of forty plus free performances or Hazard, when we attempt to infiltrate Manchester city centre in a wave of yellow and black branded eccentric behaviour!  We will certainly be bringing some of that spirit to Word of Warning and we aim to offer the best value, most entertaining evenings in Manchester plus a few surprises!"
Following the 17th February launch, Word of Warning carries on with a monthly "Sampler" night at Zion Arts Centre - bringing a range of up and coming new artists to Manchester in a series of double or even triple bills. This is work that you won't see anywhere else in the North West: a sneak preview of what's up and coming around the country, before it hits the mainstream.  On top of this, Word of Warning is working with Contact to bring back much loved artists Stacy Makishi and Brian Lobel;  the fourth outing for Turn, the three day dance microfestival,  and a new platform, Works Ahead, for developing shows by up and coming local artists.
If that wasn't enough to be getting on with, Word of Warning also runs a free weekly emailer - keeping people in touch with new performance work around the North.
"When greenroom closed, I found myself at a loose end, completely lost for what to do and where to go," says Drury, "so I started making a diary of what I was interested in within an evening's travelling distance of Manchester.  I might be a bit of a zealot about this stuff, but I figured it might be interesting to other people, so I started a blog, which became the Word of Warning mailer.  A couple of thousand people are now getting my mails so I guess I wasn't the only one looking for something to do!  Don't expect fancy graphics or a hard-sell - it really is no-nonsense, text and links only - just what I'm thinking about doing in the week ahead!"
Word of Warning launches on Friday 17 February with Third Angel and mala voadora's What I Heard About The World, 7.30pm at Zion Arts Centre, tickets £8/£5.
