leonpostermediumLiverpool Acoustic will be presenting  folk legend Leon Rosselson in concert on Friday 22nd April 2011 in the Victorian grandeur of Sefton Park Palm House.

Rosselson was a member of the Galliards in the early days of the 1960s folk revival and made numerous radio and TV appearences, with many of his songs featuring on the satirical TV show That Was The Week That Was. He has worked alongside Martin Carthy, Roy Bailey, Frankie Armstrong, Dave Swarbrick, and Robb Johnson, and his songs have been covered by Billy Bragg and the Oyster Band, Roy Bailey, and Eliza Carthy.

Leon will be performing his one man show in Liverpool for the first time ever. It's called My Life As A Songwriter (or How I Failed To Become Rich And Famous) and is a hop, skip and a jump through five decades of songwriting, from That Was The Week That Was and the satire boom of the sparky sixties to the curdled present, evoking the spirit of the times through song and story, with songs ranging from the lyrical to the satirical, from the personal to the political, from the humorous to the poignant.

Liverpool Acoustic's Graham Holland said"We're really excited to be working with the Working Class Life & Music Festival and Sefton Park Palm House to bring a true legend of the folk scene, and one of our all time songwriting heroes, to Liverpool with his one man show. We can't think of a better way to start the Easter Bank Holiday weekend than spending it listening to top quality music in a unique and special venue."

"...a unique songwriter. I do not think there is anyone in the English speaking world to touch him. The man is a songwriting colossus" (fRoots)

"He has the passion of Brel, the commitment of Brecht and the wit of Lehrer" (Songlines)

Support on the night is from Rich Man’s Ruin, a folk group based in Liverpool, comprising Gabi Monk, Alun Parry, and Vinny T Spen.

Tickets are available in advance for £9 (£7 concessions) from www.wegottickets.com/event/104400
