Liverpool's first Music Unconference is planned for the 23rd and 24th April 2011 and it's totally free - yes you read that right FREE.....

For musicians by musicians

The business of the day will be what those attending the conference want it to be that's the way an UNCONFERENCE works. The delegates plan the workshops in advance and delegates vote on the sessions they would like to attend. The most popular sessions are run and if anyone wants to run a small session in a small room during the day then they can do. The unconference fits alongside the Liverpool Working Class music festival which has been taking place for a few years now and will start on the Friday evening 22nd April.

Did I mention that it was FREE

OK so why is it Free - well it's free as we will get a venue for free or cheap at least and this is what really eats up the cost of a conference. We won't be paying for speakers as they will be participants and the only person making money will be the one selling the coffee.

Why are Defnet Media involved.

So why is Defnet Media involved? Well I'm doing it  because in a very small way I have been involved in music management (very small) but at the same time I get invited along to Music conferences on a press badge. I turn up to see 10 people in a room that fits 200 on a weekday afternoon. A small fortune is paid out to attend and the real people who could have benefited most weren't in the room, they couldn't afford the tickets or if they could they would have had to take a day off their proper job. So I've decided it can't go on this way.

The UNCONFERENCE I/we/you are organising is going to be at the weekend and cost nothing to attend - we will live video stream the whole event and capture it as best as we can through video, audio and photos. We will look to bring in some creative technologist peeps to run sessions if delegates are interested. Have a think about what it is that you could share and have a think about the workshops or presentation you could give. Remember - Sharing your knowledge and skills makes you a much richer person but you don't have to you can just attend as a delegate.

I've had some suggestions for workshop so far

Organising a tour
Building your own instruments
Promoting your work through podcasting
Building a website
Live Video/Audio Steaming
Using Sound Cloud and other services
Marketing your band

What next? We will be creating a special website for the event in the coming months however watch www.defnetmedia.com for more details of that announcement or follow us on twitter @defnetmedia

What do you think - you want to get involved then please comment on this post on the Facebook page for defnetmedia

Sign up for the Music Unconference Newsletter and we will keep you up to date with developments.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
